The Presiding Member of the Wasa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly, Hon. George Amoah, has expressed deep concern over the state of the cassava factory established under the government’s One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative.
Speaking in an interview with Asona News, Hon. Amoah said he has seen recent images of the factory, and described the situation as a sad development, especially since the project was meant to create jobs for the youth in the area.
“It is very sad to see the factory in this condition. This was supposed to create employment for our young people,” he lamented.
Hon. Amoah revealed that he intends to raise the matter on the floor of the Assembly during the upcoming General Assembly meeting on Thursday. According to him, the General Assembly is the highest decision-making body of the municipality, and it is the right platform to bring the issue to the attention of all relevant authorities.
“I will raise it at the General Assembly meeting because that is where all major decisions of the municipality are made,” he said.
He added that during the meeting, key stakeholders including Nananom (traditional leaders), the Member of Parliament (MP), and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) will be present. He believes this will be the perfect opportunity to urge immediate action on the abandoned factory.
Hon. Amoah further questioned what job opportunities the youth will have if such factories remain idle, especially when the government is urging them to stop illegal mining (galamsey).
“If we are telling the youth to stop galamsey, then we must make sure there are jobs for them. That is why the factory must work,” he stressed.
He called on all stakeholders to come together and find a solution to revive the factory for the benefit of the municipality and its people.
