Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus and the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has raised strong concerns about the credibility of the current Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Abena Osei Asare.
According to A Plus, it is both morally and ethically wrong for Mrs. Osei Asare — a former Deputy Finance Minister under Ken Ofori-Atta — to question others on matters of accountability. He said that it does not take legal knowledge to understand this, but rather, “the fear of God.”
A Plus argued that it is unbelievable for a serious nation like Ghana to allow Abena Osei Asare, who served under an administration accused of several financial scandals, to question appointees of President John Dramani Mahama who have served for less than a year.
He reminded Ghanaians that during her time at the Finance Ministry, she openly defended former Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Commissioner-General, Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, when he refused to disclose his age publicly.
A Plus also listed a number of controversial contracts that took place under the administration of Ken Ofori-Atta and Abena Osei Asare. These include:
1. The Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) Contract — a multi-billion cedi deal between the GRA and SML, which is currently being investigated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for possible wrongdoing.
2. The ECG–Beijing Jao Loss Reduction Contract — an agreement between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Jao, meant to reduce power losses, but now under investigation for possible financial irregularities.
3. The Health Ministry’s Ambulance Deal — a contract with Service Ghana Auto Limited for ambulance procurement, also being investigated for suspected breaches of procurement laws and poor management.
“These are not rumors,” A Plus said. “These are ongoing investigations into contracts signed under the same administration Abena Osei Asare served. So, by what moral authority does she now sit in Parliament questioning others about accountability?”
He went further to criticize the hypocrisy of the situation, pointing out that Abena Osei Asare was part of a government that initiated the controversial National Cathedral project — a project he described as “a temple without walls and a faith without receipts.”
“The deputy of a man who built a temple without walls and served God with a questionable budget now wants to question others about integrity? That is not courage; that is hypocrisy wearing a suit,” he wrote.
A Plus added that Mrs. Osei Asare was not a mere spectator but played a key role in an administration that led Ghana into severe economic hardship through reckless borrowing and mismanagement.
“To see her sitting there questioning others on national TV is not bravery — it’s a national disgrace,” he said. “She should be the one facing the committee, not leading it.”
He concluded his statement with a call for truth and fear of God in leadership, saying, “We don’t need to be brave to tell the truth. We just need to fear God. My faith in Jesus has grown stronger, and I believe one day, everyone will face judgment. Let’s fear God, for the sake of Ghana.”
He ended his message by wishing everyone a happy Sunday filled with love. ❤️
