President John Dramani Mahama has warned all appointees in his government that anyone involved in a corruption scandal will face immediate and strict action.
He made the statement during a courtesy visit by a 17-member delegation from the Christian Council of Ghana to the Jubilee House. President Mahama said his administration is committed to fighting corruption and holding officials accountable.
“Before I became president, I promised that we would take the fight against corruption to a whole new level. This is not personal against anyone,” he said.
The President criticized the common practice of addressing corruption only after a government leaves office, noting that many scandals go unchecked while administrations are in power.
“Our problem in fighting corruption is that it is always post-regime corruption that we deal with. When scandals happen, governments often do nothing until a new administration comes,” he explained.
President Mahama used strong language to stress the seriousness of his warning to ministers, saying the first person who brings a scandal to his administration will face severe consequences.
He also linked accountability to public trust, saying that tackling corruption is crucial for maintaining confidence in Ghana’s democracy.
“We must deal with corruption seriously. If we want our people to continue to trust our democracy, we must show that our leaders can govern responsibly,” he said.
