Hon. Eric Opoku, Member of Parliament and Minister for Agriculture, has dismissed claims made on Adom FM that the government has increased the salaries of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from GH₵5,000 to GH₵36,000.
A few days ago, Omahene Kwabena Asante, host of Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, together with his co-host, confidently reported this allegation on air. However, Hon. Opoku has clarified that the information is false and misleading.
The incident serves as an important reminder that journalists must verify every piece of information before presenting it to the public. Misinformation, especially when broadcast on popular platforms, can spread quickly and create unnecessary confusion.
The Minister’s response highlights the need for balanced, factual, and professional reporting, urging media practitioners to avoid bias and uphold the integrity of the profession.
Videos of both the Adom FM report and Hon. Opoku’s rebuttal are now circulating, allowing the public to see exactly what was said and how the Minister responded.
