Businessman and politician Ken Ohene Agyapong has told delegates in the Wasa Amenfi East Municipal that Ghana’s youth should not be blamed for engaging in illegal mining (galamsey). Instead, he says the real problem is the lack of jobs and opportunities.
Speaking to delegates on Sunday, 23rd November 2025, Ken Agyapong explained that young people understand the dangers and negative impact of galamsey, but many still choose to do it because they have no other means of survival.
According to him, the issue is not about youth having bad character but about leaders failing to create employment.
He stated that galamsey is simply a symptom of unemployment, and until Ghana creates enough jobs, the problem will continue no matter how many arrests are made.
Ken Agyapong emphasized that Ghana needs a business-minded leader who can build industries, support entrepreneurship, and provide real opportunities for young people.
He urged the delegates to think about the future of the youth and support leadership that focuses on job creation, not excuses.
