The Western Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, Nana Poku Bosompim, has made a surprising revelation about the challenges officers face when dealing with illegal miners, popularly known as galamseyers.
Speaking about the dangers involved in the fight against illegal mining, he stated that some galamsey operators rely on strong spiritual powers to protect themselves during confrontations.
According to him:
“There are times when we fire at illegal miners, but the bullets do not penetrate their bodies because of the spiritual powers they rely on. We often have to target and remove their talismans and amulets before we can subdue them.”
His comments have sparked discussions across the country, with many Ghanaians expressing shock about the claim. Others say it highlights how risky and complicated the battle against galamsey has become.
The Forestry Commission continues to work with security agencies to stop illegal mining, which has caused serious destruction to forests, rivers, and farmlands in the Western Region and other parts of Ghana.
Officials say the fight will continue despite the dangers, and they are calling on the public to support efforts to protect the environment.
