Preko News is deeply concerned about the growing number of so-called “Ashawo joints” operating close to the Wasa Akropong A-School. This disturbing development poses a serious moral, social, and psychological danger to our schoolchildren — and it must not be ignored any longer.
It is unacceptable that in a town like Wasa Akropong, where education and discipline are supposed to be the foundation for the next generation, such immoral activities are allowed to take place just a few steps from a learning environment. Children walk past these joints every day, seeing things they are too young to understand. What kind of values are we teaching them when such places operate freely in front of their eyes?
The community cannot sit idle and watch as the innocence of our children is threatened by the rise of prostitution and indecent behavior near schools. Parents are worried, teachers are frustrated, and the moral image of Wasa Akropong is at stake. This is not just a private matter — it is a public concern that demands urgent action.
We call on the Municipal Assembly, the Police Service, and all traditional and community leaders to take immediate steps to shut down these operations. It is their responsibility to protect the moral fabric of our society and ensure that our children grow up in a safe and disciplined environment.
At the same time, we urge those involved in such activities to seek help and alternative livelihoods. The government’s various youth employment and skills training initiatives exist to help young people find better paths in life. We must encourage rehabilitation, not just punishment.
The people of Wasa Akropong are known for their respect, hard work, and strong moral values. Let us not allow a few bad examples to destroy our community’s reputation. We must unite to protect our children and restore decency around our schools.
If we fail to act now, we will pay a heavy price tomorrow. The time for talk is over — it is time to act.
