The Interim General Secretary of the United Party, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has launched a strong attack on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as an outsider and a member of the opposition NDC who has been imposed on the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV, monitored by Prekonews.com, Buaben Asamoa said the NPP has lost its true identity by allowing someone who does not genuinely belong to the party to rise through its ranks.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia’s loyalty lies with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), not the NPP, and he even questioned the political allegiance of his wife, Samira Bawumia.
> “NPP has allowed a foreigner who is NDC, Dr. Bawumia, to be imposed on them. Go ask his wife, Samira, if she even has an NPP membership card,” he said.
Buaben Asamoa later clarified that by describing Dr. Bawumia as a foreigner, he did not mean the former Vice President is not a Ghanaian citizen. He explained that the term referred to Bawumia’s political background, suggesting he is not a true or original member of the NPP but someone whose roots are in the NDC.
The outspoken politician, who once served as the NPP’s Director of Communications, claimed that the current leadership of the NPP has lost direction and departed from its founding principles.
His remarks have since sparked heated political debate, with some describing the comments as divisive, while others believe they reflect growing discontent wit
hin the party.
