The family of the late Samuel Aboagye, one of the eight people who died in the helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which also claimed the life of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, says the widow, Abigail Aboagye, and her family are preventing them from carrying out a DNA test to confirm the true paternity of a child left behind.
Speaking on Aseda FM, Samuel’s brother, Nana Kwabena Oyiakwan, explained that after the tragic helicopter accident, the family requested a DNA test to confirm whether the baby is truly their late brother’s child, but Abigail and her relatives have refused.
According to him, Abigail Aboagye’s family has instead asked Samuel’s family to perform the necessary traditional rites to officially end the marriage since Samuel is no more. However, Samuel’s family head did not agree to that request, explaining that Asante tradition allows such rites to take place only one year after a spouse’s death.
Nana Oyiakwan said the family still insists that the DNA test must be done to clear any doubts. He revealed that the demand for a DNA test is not out of disrespect but to establish the truth, since his late brother once told their mother that he had doubts about his wife’s faithfulness.
He added that the delay and resistance from Abigail’s family have caused tension between the two families, urging them to cooperate so that peace can prevail and all traditional and legal matters can be settled properly.
