A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday evening when a middle-aged man was crushed to death by a moving train on the Tema–Mpakadan railway line. The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. in the Bediako area near Afienya, in the Greater Accra Region.
According to reports, video footage from the train’s camera showed the man walking on the rail tracks as the train approached. Despite the train operator repeatedly blowing the horn to warn him, the victim did not move away and was struck by the train before it came to a stop.
Police officers from the Community 25 Division rushed to the scene and took the body to the Tema General Hospital for examination and identification. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed.
The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has expressed deep regret over the incident. In a statement, the Authority reminded the public to avoid walking or crossing railway tracks, stressing that it is extremely dangerous and can lead to loss of life.
The GRDA also assured the public of its continued efforts to improve safety along all railway lines and promised to work closely with the police and emergency services to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
