A grieving mother has shared the painful final moments she had with her daughter, one of the six young women who died in the tragic stampede at the EL Wak Stadium during the military recruitment exercise on Wednesday.
According to the mother, she spoke to her daughter earlier that morning to check on how the recruitment process was going. Her daughter told her everything was going well.
Later, the young woman called her mother again and explained that she was about to enter the main recruitment area.
She told her mother that once inside, the military officers would not allow the use of mobile phones, so she would no longer be able to communicate until the entire process was over.
The mother said she waited anxiously throughout the day. In the evening, she tried calling her daughter several times, but the calls were not going through. After some time, a man finally picked up the phone.
The man told her that her daughter had been taken to the 37 Military Hospital because she had collapsed after people stepped on her during the stampede.
Shocked and afraid, the mother quickly contacted her brother to rush to the hospital and confirm what had happened.
But the reality was heartbreaking. When her brother arrived, he discovered that the young woman had already passed away. She was found at the mortuary.
The devastated mother said she is still struggling to understand how her daughter left home healthy and full of hope, only to lose her life in such a painful way.
The tragic incident has sparked widespread sorrow and renewed calls for better crowd control and safety measures during national recruitment exercises to prevent such avoidable deaths.
