The Reclamation Committee in the Wasa Amenfi East Municipality has issued a strong warning to people engaged in galamsey (illegal mining) along the roadside. The committee is asking all operators to remove their machines and equipment before NAIMOS arrives to arrest those who fail to comply.
Speaking to Agya Yaw Obeng Preko on Asona News at 2pm, members of the committee explained that their action is part of efforts to reclaim and protect lands that fall under the Wasa Amenfi East jurisdiction.
Festival Visitors Should Not See Illegal Mining
The committee said that the Adim Kɛseɛ Festival is approaching, and many visitors—including government officials—will be travelling to Wasa Akropong. They do not want these visitors to see illegal mining activities taking place openly along the roadside, as it would create a bad image for the municipality, the MCE, and the MP.
They stressed that the sight of mining pits, mud, and heavy machines beside the main road paints a negative picture of the community and could affect development efforts.
Miners Asked to Remove All Equipment
Because of this, the committee is urging all roadside galamsey operators to immediately remove their equipment, machines, and other properties. They warned that anyone who refuses to comply will face arrest and possible prosecution when NAIMOS begins its operations.
The Committee says it is determined to restore degraded lands and protect the environment for the benefit of residents and future generation
