The Member of Parliament for Bantama and former Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has reportedly written to President John Mahama, asking him to stop the ongoing Kumasi Expressway project.
According to the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Asenso-Boakye believes the project is wasteful and should not continue. Dr. Ato Forson made this known when he addressed the media about the government’s major infrastructure plans.
He explained that the Kumasi Expressway is an important project meant to reduce heavy traffic in Kumasi, improve road safety, and boost economic activities in the Ashanti Region. He said it is surprising that someone who once served as Roads Minister would call for the project to be stopped.
Dr. Ato Forson added that the government remains committed to completing the expressway because it will benefit millions of road users and support trade in the region. He called on the public to ignore attempts to delay or stop such critical national projects.
The finance minister assured Ghanaians that President Mahama’s administration will continue to invest in infrastructure that improves lives and supports development.
