A major breakthrough has been made in the effort to restore peace in Bawku, as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, prepares to present his mediation report to President John Dramani Mahama.
This follows an important dialogue meeting held on Monday at the Manhyia Palace between representatives of the Kusaasi and Mamprusi communities. Both groups have been involved in the long-standing Bawku conflict.
According to sources, participants from both sides left the meeting looking relieved, and there were brief moments of celebration within the palace grounds. Observers say the engagement marks a strong step toward achieving lasting peace in the area.
Security officers had to intervene at one point when a minor misunderstanding occurred outside the palace. The incident reportedly happened when a jubilant Mamprusi supporter accidentally hit a vehicle belonging to the other faction. The situation was controlled quickly, and no further trouble was recorded.
President Mahama appointed the Asantehene to lead this national peace effort, and Otumfuo’s full report is expected to guide the next steps the government will take toward finally resolving the Bawku conflict.
