The Krontihene of Akyem Asuom, Nana Boadi Amponim Obo-dade III, has sparked discussion after describing the current NPP presidential hopefuls as “Sankwas” during a reflection on President Mahama’s first year in office.
Speaking during a community gathering, the chief expressed disappointment in the current state of the New Patriotic Party. According to him, the NPP he once knew as a strong and respected political force has lost much of its value and influence.
Nana Boadi Amponim Obo-dade III said the party’s leadership and internal direction have weakened over the years, resulting in a lack of confidence in those seeking to lead the party into future elections. He stressed that the NPP must reorganize, rebuild its integrity, and regain the trust of Ghanaians.
The chief also used the occasion to assess the first year of President Mahama’s mandate, noting that national leadership requires seriousness, unity, and a clear vision—qualities he believes should be expected from all political parties.
His comments have since generated debate within the community and among political followers, with many discussing the future direction of the NPP as Ghana continues its democratic journey
