The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) has arrested a notorious illegal mining kingpin at Bisiasi in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region. The suspect was caught engaging in illegal mining activities that had blocked and polluted the Ayensu River, a major water source in the area.
According to reports, the NAIMOS task force stormed the site on Sunday, 9th November 2025, as part of its ongoing operations to clamp down on illegal mining across the country. During the raid, the kingpin, described as a well-known thug in the area, appeared at the site armed with a pistol.
In a shocking twist, he allegedly attempted to bribe the NAIMOS officers with a cash amount of GH₵100,000 to avoid arrest. However, the task force rejected the bribe, seized the money, and arrested the suspect on the spot. The illegal mining equipment found at the site was also confiscated, and the entire operation area has since been shut down.
Officials from NAIMOS have assured the public that they remain committed to fighting illegal mining and protecting the country’s water bodies from destruction.
The arrest serves as a strong warning to others involved in galamsey activities that the law will catch up with them.
