On Asona FM’s Morning Show dated 5th November 2025, the Member of Parliament for Wasa Amenfi East, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, claimed in a phone interview with Nana Ofoo that he had lobbied for several water projects which would soon begin in his constituency.
However, Preko News has fact-checked the claim and found it to be inaccurate. Reliable information indicates that the upcoming water project for Wasa Akropong is not a result of any lobbying by the MP, but rather a direct initiative by the Ghana Gold Board in collaboration with the Wasa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly.
Investigations by Preko News show that the Ghana Gold Board consulted the Municipal Assembly to begin these community development projects as part of a broader national plan to support mining areas that have contributed significantly to Ghana’s gold production.
So far, Wasa Akropong has been selected among other mining communities such as Ellembelle, Prestea, and Tarkwa in the Western Region to benefit from this initiative.
The upcoming projects are expected to provide clean and safe water, improve local infrastructure, and contribute to the general well-being of residents in these selected communities.
Preko News emphasizes that this report is based on verified facts gathered from credible sources within the Ghana Gold Board and the Municipal Assembly.
As a responsible media house, we have no issues with the MP, but we call on Hon. Nicholas Amankwah to present evidence or official documents to support his claim that he lobbied for the project.
Preko News will continue to follow up and update the public as the project preparations move forward.
