The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) has arrested Iddrisu Zakari, popularly known as Yaayaa, a notorious illegal mining operator accused of engaging in extensive galamsey activities within the Osino residential area.
The arrest took place on Monday, 10th November 2025, at about 6:06 p.m., at Bonsu. Zakari was apprehended after agreeing to meet NAIMOS operatives to negotiate the release of his detained thugs and to discuss halting ongoing investigations into his operations.
It would be recalled that NAIMOS operatives, on the night of Friday, 7th November 2025, raided Zakari’s illegal mining site at Osino. During the operation, 32 Nigerien nationals and 4 Ghanaian machete-wielding guards were arrested for their involvement in the illegal mining activities.
Following his arrest, Iddrisu Zakari has been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigations and possible prosecution.
NAIMOS has reaffirmed its commitment to intensify operations across the country to curb the menace of illegal mining and protect Ghana’s environment and water bodies.
